ATI inks titanium contract with General Dynamics unit
PITTSBURGH – Allegheny Technologies Inc. said Thursday it signed two new longterm pricing agreements with General Dynamics Land Systems to be the preferred supplier of titanium plate for the United States’ Abrams tank and United Kingdom’s AJAX specialist vehicle.
The company said in a news release the Abrams agreement runs through 2019 while the AJAX pact is effective through 2021.
Production of the titanium products will begin at ATI’s melt facility in Richland, Wash., and will be completed at ATI’s specialty plate plant in Washington.
Bob Wetherbee, executive vice president for the flat rolled products group said revenue from the two contract periods will total a combined $75 million.
“This marks a significant increase in the flat rolled products segment’s strategic aerospace and defense market sales, which are an integral part of our ongoing portfolio transformation toward more high-value products,” he said.
ATI CEO Rich Harshman said the General Dynamics contracts mark “the beginning of a new relationship with this strategic global customer. ATI is forging a strong technology connection with GD and together we are developing specialty materials and components for improved protection and light-weighting of next-generation military vehicles.”
