William J. Guidas

William J. Guidas, 90, of Mather, formerly of Orlando, Fla., and Nemacolin, died at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, January 14, 2018, in his home.

He was born October 27, 1927, in Hunker, a son of the late John and Mabel Mae Perkins Guidas.

Mr. Guidas was a 1945 graduate of German Township High School and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Waynesburg College.

He served with the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947.

Mr. Guidas worked for U.S. Steel Corp. Robena Mine as an accountant for 34 years, until his retirement in 1983.

He was a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, Carmichaels, where he served as a deacon and elder.

Mr. Guidas was also a member of Valley Lodge 459, F&AM, in Masontown and Bahia Shrine Temple in Orlando, Fla. He was also a member of Barbershop Chorus in Uniontown for 27 years.

His wife, Colin Marie Faulkner Guidas, survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Diane L. Benamati and husband Frank of Mather; two grandchildren, David Benamati and Bernard Benamati; a stepgrandson, Kenneth Byers; two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Blake Benamati; a brother, Lloyd C. Guidas of North Huntingdon; a stepson, Kenneth L. Byers (Carol Leigh) of Norfolk, Va.; a stepdaughter, Cheryl M. Byers of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Guidas also anticipated the birth of another great-grandchild in June.

Deceased are his first wife, Mary Louise “Clem” Clemsic Guidas; his second wife, Eleanor M. Machesky Guidas; a son, Thomas W. Guidas; and two brothers, George and John H. Guidas.

At Mr. Guidas’ request, there will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be announced.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society.
