Barbara Ann Bettes Martin died Thursday, January 25, 2018, in Cincinnati, Ohio, from complications of dementia.

She was born October 13, 1931, in Girard, Ohio, a daughter of Earl Franklin “Jeff” Bettes and Mildred Driver Bettes.

She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Allen (Nancy) Martin of Pittsburgh, Steven Richard (Frances) Martin of Arcata, Calif., and Anne M. Martin (Jeff) Walters of Cincinnati; two grandchildren, Catherine Martin (Gordon) Christopher and Sarah Martin (Frank) Cua; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Carol (Jim) Kelsey of Greenville, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Richard Elliot Martin, whom she met in Corry, before they married and moved to Pittsburgh.

A longtime resident of Bethel Park and later Washington County, she and her husband Richard raised and trained many field and show champion golden retrievers and sent their renowned Hyegold puppies to families all over America. The Martins were active members of the Greater Pittsburgh Golden Retriever Club. In later years, she enjoyed sharing her love of goldens by taking her therapy dogs to nursing homes and schools.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.act.alz.org) would be gratefully appreciated.
