CALIFORNIA – Shatara Parsons led a balanced scoring attack and California University outscored Slippery Rock by 12 in the third quarter to come away with an 81-70 victory in the PSAC women’s basketball tournament Monday.

The Vulcans moved their record to 24-5 on the season and set up a showdown at Edinboro Wednesday night in the quarterfinal round.

Slippery Rock’s season ends with a 12-16 record.

Parsons, fresh from being named Freshman of the Week in the conference, converted 13 of 16 attempts from the free throw line and sank 4 of 5 from the field for 21 points in 29 minutes. She had 5 rebounds, a block and 2 steals.

Jiahna Flood-Francis scored 18 points on 6 of 14 shooting from the field and 6 of 10 from the free throw line.

D.J. Hahn sank 3 of Cal’s 7 three-point attempts and finished with 11 points. She had 4 of Cal’s 26 rebounds.

Abbey Sporio and Gina Vellacorsa each scored 10 points for the Vulcans, who led 36-32 at halftime. Cal broke the game open with a 24-12 run in the third quarter.

Brooke Hinderliter led Slippery Rock with 20 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field and a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line.

Morgan Henderson had 16 points and 6 rebounds, Madison Johnson had 11 points and LeeAnn Gibson 10.

Cal shot 45 percent from the floor (27 of 60) and Slippery Rock was 29 of 49 for 59 percent.
