Chartiers-Houston returns to court for quarterfinals in Johnstown
The Chartiers-Houston High School girls basketball team, the last local team remaining in the PIAA playoffs, will be back on the court Friday in the Class 2A quarterfinals against a familiar opponent.
Chartiers-Houston (21-6) will play Bellwood-Antis (25-3), the third-place team from District 6, at Greater Johnstown High School. Tipoff is 6 p.m. The winner advances to the state semifinals Monday against either Blairsville (25-3) or Reynolds (16-10).
Chartiers-Houston knocked off District 6 champion Bishop McCort, 64-51, in the second round Tuesday night while Bellwood-Antis advanced with a 70-53 victory over District 10 champion West Middlesex.
Chartiers-Houston and Bellwood-Antis met last year in the second round of the state tournament with the Bucs losing, 80-66, in a game played at Hempfield. The Blue Devils made 10 three-point field goals in that game.
The matchup features two of the top players in Class 2A in Pennsylvania. Chartiers-Houston’s Alexa Williamson, a Temple recruit, has scored 80 points in two state tournament games. Bellwood-Antis’ Alli Campbell, is ranked by one recruiting service in the top 20 sophomores in the country and already has scholarship offers from defending national champion South Carolina, Pitt and West Virginia, among others.
