A Canonsburg man told borough police Tuesday night a man jumped into his vehicle and tried to rob him at gunpoint.

Gabriel Ovalle Lopez told police he planned to go shopping at Sarris Candies on Adams Avenue about 9:15 p.m., only to discover the store was closed. When he left, he went down the wrong way on Chartiers Avenue. As Lopez prepared to turn around, he said a thin, tall man got in the back of his vehicle and pointed a gun at him.

Lopez said the gunman ordered him to continue driving, so he kept going the wrong way on Chartiers. The back door of his vehicle was not closed.

Lopez crashed into a parked vehicle, and he said the gunman fell out of the vehicle. The gunman then reportedly fled.

Lopez continued driving, turning onto Second Street and Adams Avenue before continuing home. When he got home, he told his girlfriend what happened and they called police. Police, in the meantime, had been called to the area by the owner of the vehicle that had been hit.

The incident remains under investigation.
