William S. Hopkins
William S. Hopkins, 91, of Waynesburg, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018, in Waynesburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Thursday, January 6, 1927, in Sycamore, a son of the late William L. Hopkins and Nellie Conklin Hopkins.
Mr. Hopkins was a member of First Baptist Church, Waynesburg. He was also a member of Moose Lodge 461, Waynesburg.
He enjoyed working with his cattle and spending time with his dogs.
Years ago, Bill worked with his brother on the railroad. He then worked as a laborer and helped build the Long Building in Waynesburg with Rota Brothers Construction in 1946. He then worked as a laborer and helped build Preston Sub Station, and then went to work for New York State Gas Co., now Dominion Gas, for 20 years. In 1968, he started Hopkins and Sons Contracting and owned and operated the business for 40 years, retiring in 2008. He was best known for demolition, house moving and doing concrete work. He was also caretaker for Green Mount Cemetery for several years, as well as serving on the cemetery board.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Louise Cox Hopkins, whom he married August 24, 1947; three daughters, Marsha A. Hopkins of Waynesburg, Helen Mooney and husband Robert of Waynesburg and Thelma J. Hopkins of Waynesburg; four sons, David S. Hopkins and wife Linda of Waynesburg, James E. Hopkins and wife Vickie of Waynesburg, Daniel C. Hopkins and companion Christy of Waynesburg and Richard W. Hopkins and wife Deloris of Waynesburg; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; several stepgranddaughters and stepgreat-grandsons; a sister, Lillian Ulrich of Waynesburg; two brothers, John C. Hopkins of East Earl and David L. Hopkins of Uniontown; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Michael Lee Hopkins; two grandsons, Bobby Lee Richard and Nicholas Brian Hopkins; a great-grandson; a great-great-granddaughter; three daughters-in-law, Patty Hopkins, Linda Hopkins and Joyce Hopkins; four sisters, Aldean Sanders, Evalena Malmgrem, Eleanor Sagges and Hazel Hadrick; three brothers, Dennis Hopkins, Robert Hopkins and Wallace Hopkins; a half sister, Helen Bradley; and two half brothers, Delmont Conklin and Earl Hopkins.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. There will be no visitation Easter Sunday. Burial will be in Oakmont Cemetery, Waynesburg.
