LETTER Flood problems persist in Union
I am a resident of Union Township, Washington County. My neighbors and I who live on Linden Street have been subjected to flooding twice within the last year. Our homes are situated on Peters Creek, and we all have flood insurance. However, our township board of supervisors is refusing to institute any emergency procedures to ameliorate the problem. They talk about five-year plans to create flood plains and retaining pond problems in neighboring townships that contribute to our problem that should be addressed by those municipalities. They do not offer solutions for immediate temporary relief for those of us who suffer decreasing property values and tens of thousands of dollars in property losses.
We do not have five years to wait for the board to rectify the problem. Board members are paid for each session they attend, and the residents’ return on our tax dollars is minimal. i have lived in Union Township for eight years and witnessed total board membership changes. Unfortunately, the names and faces change, but the problems remain. Issues that were discussed eight years ago by the old board are still being discussed without any progress or solutions.
