Margaret Powell Murdock
Margaret Powell Murdock of Waynesburg died Friday, November 24, 2017, in Strabane Woods, Washington.
She was born March 8, 1926, a daughter of the late Edward Miles and Margaret Stineman Powell of Waynesburg.
Mrs. Murdock was a graduate of Waynesburg College with a degree in English. At various times in her life, she was an employee of the Washington Observer (Greene County pages), a substitute teacher in Waynesburg and West Greene high schools, a trustee of Bowlby Library and, in 1974, chairman of Greene County American Revolution Bicentennial Observance.
She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing duplicate bridge for more than 50 years. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing and knitting. She was also an author who wrote “Bent Twigs,” the multigenerational biographies of the Steinmans, Powells and Murdocks.
Mrs. Murdock was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Waynesburg, and for some years sang in its choir and taught Sunday school.
On November 21, 1948, she married Raymond “Buck” Murdock, who died February 4, 1992.
Also deceased are two sisters, Bobbi Stitt and Catherine Simmers.
She is survived by three sons, Dale (Debbi), Rick (Marina) and Stephen Murdock, and grandchildren Brandon (Tara) Murdock, Dr. Erin Murdock, Beth (Nick) Cericola and Miles Murdock.
There will be a greeting of friends and family from 1 to 2 p.m., the time of a celebration of life service, Saturday, March 24, in First Presbyterian Church, Waynesburg, with the Rev. William Sukolsky officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg.
