Assistant superintendent leaving McGuffey for top job at Chartiers Valley
Five months after being hired as assistant superintendent of McGuffey School District, Johannah Vanatta is leaving.
She was hired as superintendent of Chartiers Valley School District by unanimous vote of the school board Thursday night. Scott Seltzer had been serving as acting superintendent. Vanatta, who has a doctorate in education, will begin her new job April 1.
The McGuffey board hired Vanatta Oct. 19 in an 8-1 vote, and she began working for the district Nov. 1. She succeeded Laura Jacob, who resigned in early August.
Vanatta is a McGuffey taxpayer, living in the Taylorstown area with her husband, Aaron, and their two children. Aaron Vanatta is the resource officer at Quaker Valley High School.
Before coming to McGuffey, Vanatta was assistant superintendent for secondary education in the North Hills district. She had previously been a teacher in the Trinity, Washington and Jefferson-Morgan districts, and performed administrative internships at Jefferson-Morgan and Upper St. Clair. Vanatta left Trinity for North Hills in March 2008 to be an assistant high school principal, and held that position for four years before being promoted.
