WAYNESBURG – High and Greene streets in Waynesburg Borough as well as Route 19/21 through Morrisville in Franklin Township will all get a much-needed new coat of blacktop this year.

The state Department of Transportation is expected to open bids this week on a project to repave High and Greene streets as well as Route 19/21 through Morrisville and Route 19 south to near Lemley Road in Whiteley Township. South Richhill Street between Greene and High streets also will be repaved.

“We don’t have a timeframe for it yet,” PennDOT spokeswoman Valerie Petersen said. However, the resurfacing of the about 8½ miles of roadway could begin in May, she said.

Work is expected to continue throughout the summer, Petersen said.

The project will be completed during daylight hours and traffic will be controlled by flaggers when it is deemed necessary, she said.

The project will involve the milling and resurfacing of the roadway, PennDOT project manager Brandon Firestone said.

Adjustments also will be made to the inlet drops on the north side of Greene Street, he said.

High and Greene streets have not been repaved in a number of years. Heavy truck traffic has made sections of the road, particularly Greene Street, extremely rough.

PennDOT also plans to resurface Route 221, Lippincott Road, in Washington and Morgan townships, between Interstate 79 and Route 188.

That project also could begin in May.

Another PennDOT road project will involve the milling and resurfacing of Route 218 from Route 21 in Waynesburg Borough south to Bluff Ridge Road in Franklin Township.

That project is expected to begin in April, Petersen said.
