Steel CEO to address Waynesburg U. graduates

More than 400 Waynesburg University students will graduate during the school’s annual commencement ceremony May 6.

The commencement will include undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students attending the school at the Waynesburg campus, along with its satellite sites in Southpointe, Cranberry and Monroeville.

David Barensfeld will address the graduates during commencement and the Rev. Stuart Broberg will serve as the baccalaureate speaker.

Baccalaureate services will be held in Roberts Chapel at 11 a.m. and commencement will be held on the front lawn of Miller Hall at 2 p.m. The commencement processional begins about 20 minutes before the ceremony.

Barensfeld is the resident and CEO of Ellwood Group Inc., a manufacturer of specialty steel and nickel ingots, forgings and iron castings as components for large capital equipment. He joined Ellwood City Forge in 1979 and became president and chief executive officer of Ellwood Group in 1983. In 2017, he became chairman of its board of directors.

Stuart Broberg

Broberg serves as pastor and head of staff of the Church of the Covenant in Washington. He previously served as assistant to the president of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and pastorates in Michigan, Iowa and Virginia. Broberg has also served interim pastorates at First Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair. He is the president of the board for Camp Pine Springs in Jennerstown and is a member of the Waynesburg University Board of Trustees.
