LaMar William Shumaker, 86, of Greencastle, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018, in Shippensburg Health Care Center.

Born September 23, 1931, in Pitt Gas, he was one of 10 children born to the late Robert W. and Margaret D. Coleman Shumaker.

He made his home in Greencastle since 1974.

Mr. Shumaker graduated from Jefferson High School and attended Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy, Mass., to study theology, contemplating the idea of becoming a pastor.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.

He was employed as a wholesale carpet salesman, retiring in 1998.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Greencastle.

Mr. Shumaker was a sports enthusiast, and that is putting it mildly. For the past 30 years, he was a regular at sporting events at Greencastle Antrim High School. He knew the names of all the players and cheerleaders, and they knew him. They could always count on shouts of encouragement from him as he would walk around the stadium.

He is survived by a daughter, Lorie A. Fisher (Randy) of Greencastle; three granddaughters, Kristine Fisher of Baltimore, Md., and Jennifer Fisher and Katherine Fisher, both of Greencastle; a sister, Beverly McWilliams of Washington; a sister-in-law, Violet Shumaker of Greeley, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, deceased are eight brothers and sisters, Mabel Haladyna, Robert “Bud” Shumaker, Valeria Bowser, Rhea Shumaker, Zeta Hill, Betty McClain, Hubert Shumaker and Donna Walters; and his former wife, Mildred Shumaker.

Friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m., the time of services, Saturday, April 28, in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 South Washington Street, Greencastle. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
