Claysville man new owner of Canton butcher shop
A family business in its first 51 years, Pennsylvania Packinghouse has changed ownership a second time in 20 months.
Doug Patterson Jr., of Claysville, closed on the purchase of the meat-packing business/butcher shop Monday. It sits along Weirich Avenue in Canton Township, off Route 40.
Patterson bought the packinghouse from Steve Antoinette of Donegal Township. Details were not disclosed.
In late August 2016, Antoinette purchased the operation from Helen Provenzano, who retired. The business was known then as Mike’s Packing Co., which her father, Mike Provenzano, started in 1965 for his son, Mickey. The son, however, died in a truck accident two years later.
Helen, now 76, worked there for 65 years. They were mostly half-days – 13 hours: 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. She took over the operation after her father died in 2003.
