Baseball: Fast start pushes Fort Cherry past Brownsville

Kyle Witzberger drove in two runs and pitched a complete game Saturday as Fort Cherry defeated host Brownsville 7-3 in Section 2-AA.
Witzberger went 3-for-4 with a double at the plate, and tossed a four-hitter with five strikeouts as Fort Cherry improved to 5-2 in the section and 5-4 overall. John Caltumo had a two-run single in the Rangers’ four-run first inning.
Brownsville (4-3, 7-3) had its four-game winning streak snapped. Tyler Spohn doubled for the Falcons.
• Belle Vernon cruised to a 15-3 victory over host Charleroi in a non-section game.
The Leopards (8-4) hit five doubles, including two by Matt Calloway. Adam Ferita, Tyler Frankel and Jake Hartman also doubled to back winning pitcher Dylan Stark.
Matt Carcella was 2-for-2 and reached base safely four times for Charleroi (1-11).
