Harry Sohyda, 83, of Muse, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018.
He was born October 4, 1934, in Muse, a son of the late Nicholas and Anna Sohyda.
Mr. Sohyda was a graduate of Cecil High School. He worked as a power assembler for 31 years at McGraw-Edison in Canonsburg and later worked as a zoning officer for Cecil Township.
Mr. Sohyda proudly served the residents of Cecil Township for more than 42 years a member of Cecil Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, including 25 years as fire chief. He was a social member of Cecil Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 and a past member of United Steelworkers of America, Washington County Firemen’s Association and International Society of Fire Service Instructors. Harry was instrumental in leading Washington County Fire School and Washington County Fire Academy for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Joyce; his three children, Nicholas (Erin) of Mt. Lebanon, Timothy (Tracie) of Bethel Park and Lori (Tony) of Pittsburgh; and his grandchildren, Nicholas, Riley, Cassidy, Jacob, Alyvia, Abigail, Luke and Julian.
Deceased are his brothers, Nicholas, John, William and Steve, and his sisters, Mary, Helen, Anna, Margaret, Dorothy and Betty.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Vladimir S. Corba Funeral Home, 300 East Main Street, Carnegie, where a firefighter’s service will be held at 5 p.m. and a Parastas will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, in Holy Virgin Russian Orthodox Church, Carnegie. Everyone please go directly to the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Virgin Russian Orthodox Church, 214 Mansfield Boulevard, Carnegie.
