Laura V. Power Alvi, 80, of Eighty Four (Peters Township), passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018, in her home.
She was born in Beallsville, a daughter of the late Fred N. and Laura B. Hickman Power.
Mrs. Alvi was a 1955 graduate of Ellsworth High School and graduated from Point Park College with an associate’s degree.
She was employed as a surgical office manager for Dr. Linhart Ophthalmology and as an executive assistant for both PPG Corp. and Allegheny Airlines.
Laura was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames and Giant Oaks Garden Club.
Mrs. Alvi was a certified landscape design artist who also enjoyed gardening, traveling and genealogy. She had a great love for her family and was considered the family historian. One of her greatest joys was listening to her daughter sing.
On October 6, 1967, she married Javaid M. Alvi, who survives. Together, they celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Also surviving are a daughter, Diba N. Alvi of Ellicott City, Md.; and many nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are 10 brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, with Nancy Mock officiating. Interment will follow in Westland Cemetery, Centerville Borough.
