Alexander Herrnberger, 94, of Canonsburg, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013.
Mr. Herrnberger was born May 13, 1918, in Moon Run, Allegheny County, a son of the late John Ofsanka and Eva Pierce Ofsanka Herrnberger. Also deceased is his stepfather, Anthony Herrnberger, who raised him from birth.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II with the 283 Engineer Combat Battalion as a technician fifth grade and received a Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and an EAME Campaign Medal.
Mr. Herrnberger lived most of his life in Canonsburg, where he worked for 39 years for Fort Pitt Bridge Works, retiring in 1980 as a foreman.
He was Protestant and a member of American Legion Post 902 of Houston, former GBU of Canonsburg and Labor Temple of Canonsburg and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg.
Mr. Herrnberger was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to dance.
In 1950, he married Patricia F. Kessler, who passed away September 6, 2003.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia A. (Joseph) Cheverine of Canonsburg; four sons, Phillip (Darla) Herrnberger of Fombell, Ronald (Kathryn) Herrnberger of Eighty Four and Richard A. (Nicole) and Paul A. (Carla) Herrnberger, both of Washington; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
