WAYNESBURG – Dr. Jacquelyn J. Core has joined Waynesburg University as the vice president for institutional effectiveness and planning, the university announced Friday. In her role, she will facilitate the university’s strategic and institutional effectiveness and direct grant writing to support instructional objectives.

Core will serve as the institutional liaison to accrediting and regulatory agencies in higher education and will provide information necessary for institutional compliance.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Core to Waynesburg University. Her extensive knowledge of regulations regarding accreditation, and her understanding of the educational process will enhance Waynesburg University’s educational opportunities,” said Timothy R. Thyreen, Waynesburg University president.

Core earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from West Virginia University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She also earned her Ph.D. and Juris Doctorate from West Virginia University. While in law school, she received the prestigious Order of the Barristers Award and was Associate Chief Justice of the Appellate Moot Court Board.

“I am excited to be a part of the mission and blessed to be joining the team at such a dynamic institution,” said Core. “It will be my honor to contribute to the ongoing success and growth of Waynesburg University and to have an opportunity to impact the lives of so many incredible students.”

Core was the senior deputy general counsel for health sciences and an assistant professor in the medical education department at West Virginia University. There, she assisted with accreditation, federal and state compliance, strategic and institutional planning and reorganization.

Her legal duties included assisting with student and faculty issues, compliance and contracts and providing administrative advice for 52 separately accredited ACGME residency and fellowship programs, four accredited health schools and a public health school currently in the accreditation process.

Prior to her time at WVU, Core was a partner in the firm of Steptoe & Johnson where she tried more than 30 cases including education, employment and medical negligence cases and gained significant regulatory and employment counseling experience as well as comprehensive risk management and risk reduction experience.

“Dr. Core’s considerable background in higher education, coupled with her strong Christian commitment, will serve the university well,” said Executive Vice President Douglas G. Lee.

Core is an executive board member of the Mountaineer Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. With the Boy Scouts of America, she has completed Wood Badge leadership training and serves as the Cubmaster of Pack 696, an assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 93, and the adviser of Venturing Crew 21. In addition, she has received the Celtic Cross Award, the highest scouting award in the Presbyterian Church.

Core has always been active in her community, serving on the boards of the Greater Uniontown Arts and Heritage Consortium, Arts Monongahela, Laurel Run of Big Sandy Watershed Association, P. Pendleton Kennedy Chapter of Trout Unlimited and is an elder at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Uniontown.
