MONONGAHELA – A major water line rupture buckled Route 88, closing the road to traffic for several hours Monday.

Monongahela police said Pennsylvania American Water planned to reopen Route 88 at First Street to one lane about 4 p.m. Monday.

Motorists were urged to find a way around the section of Route 88 affected by the broken water line.

The closure also affected some bus routes operated by Mid Mon Valley Transit Authority.

Pennsylvania American spokesman Gary Lobaugh said water was shut off to 375 customers because of the rupture. He said the line was expected to be repaired by late Monday.
