O’FALLON, Mo. – Zach Lavy hit a walk-off single in the 11th inning to give River City an 8-7 victory over the visiting Washington Wild Things in a Frontier League game Sunday night.

The loss kept the Wild Things from winning their first series since the all-star break earlier this month. It also prevented Washington from gaining ground on first-place Joliet in the crowded East Division standings.

Lavy ended the back and forth game that Washington failed to close on several occasions. The Wild Things led three separate times throughout the night, but allowed River City back into the game each time.

Washington broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the eight inning when Hector Roa hit a tripled that scored Kyle Pollock. Reydel Medina then singled to score Roa to take a 6-4 lead.

River City tied the game in the ninth when Clint Freeman hit a two-run homer.

James Harris gave the Wild Things a one-run lead, 7-6, in the top half of the inning with a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Ryan Cox.

The Rascals then spoiled that lead with a two-run 11th, including a single from Freeman that tied the game, 7-7.

Solo home runs began the scoring for both teams. River City took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Mike Jurgella homered.

Conner Simonetti tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning, going deep for the third time since joining the Wild Things at the end of June.

Harris went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Since returning from an injury July 17, Medina has a hit and an RBI in five of his six games.

Washington starting pitcher Trevor Bradley gave up seven hits, two runs, two walks and struck out four over six innings.

Aaron Burns (2-1) suffered the loss after coming in to pitch the 11th.

Cody Mincey (3-1) earned the victory for River City after pitching 3? innings in relief. The only run Mincey surrendered was unearned.
