A South Park man was arrested by Monongahela police after he allegedly forced his way into the Finleyville home of his estranged girlfriend and assaulted her current boyfriend early Wednesday.

Matthew M. Lewellyn, 23, of 1800 Patrick Place, is charged with burglary, felony criminal trespass, simple assault and criminal mischief.

Police were called just before 6 a.m. to 3500 Marion Ave. for a report of a man who broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment. Lewellyn was quickly taken into custody.

The 23-year-old woman told police she was in her apartment with her current boyfriend and her cousin when Lewellyn started pounding on the door. She told police he either kicked or pushed open the door, breaking the door frame around the deadbolt.

Once inside the apartment, Lewellyn allegedly started fighting with the other man. He then reportedly threw items around the apartment and broke the bedroom closet door.

Lewellyn then reportedly went outside and damaged his former girlfriend’s car. He then went around to the side of the building and pulled an air conditioning unit out of the window, breaking it.

Lewellyn told police he went to his former girlfriend’s apartment to get clothes for work. He said he did not remember kicking in the door or getting into a fight. Lewellyn told police he had been drinking and may have blacked out.

Lewellyn, who had blood on his face, was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital for treatment of a cut and a broken thumb.

He was arraigned before District Judge Jesse Pettit and placed in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond. He is scheduled for an Aug. 7 preliminary hearing before Pettit.
