Dr. Michael P. Mihalyo Jr. is the new president of Wheeling Jesuit University.
Msgr. Kevin M. Quirk, chair of WJU’s Board of Trustees, made the announcement Wednesday afternoon. Mihalyo, who will start Aug. 15, is the 12th president of the school.
Mihalyo will succeed Dr. Debra Townsley, who stepped down recently. She had been interim president since February 2017.
A native of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Mihalyo is currently provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at Rockford University in Rockford, Ill. He has more than two decades of experience in higher education. He previously worked at two colleges in West Virginia, Bethany and Davis & Elkins.
