Two men spent time inside a Canonsburg motorcycle dealership Saturday morning before walking back out into a lot and stealing a motorcycle that had been on display.
The owners of Barnes Bros. Motorcycles & Off Road, 589 W. Pike St., called police about 10:40 a.m. to report the theft of the 2012 gray Suzuki DR 650 dual-sport motorcycle by two men who fled in a green Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that did not have a tailgate.
The two men were seen on surveillance inside the showroom, looking at motorcycles and even sitting on some. When they exited the store, one of them pushed the motorcycle around to the side of the building, where the two loaded it into the back of a pickup truck parked near the Rite Aid lot. The thieves fled onto Pike Street.
Police are checking surveillance video from area businesses, said Detective Michael Ledger. A man reported seeing the thieves’ truck in the parking lot of a business in the 300 block of West Pike. He saw two men pulling something from under the truck. Another nearby business owner said she saw the truck in her lot.
Ledger said police also checked with businesses in Houston, because the truck fled in that direction, but it was not spotted on any surveillance there. Once information about the theft was posted on social media, Ledger said police got tips, including one that gave a possible location of the truck. Police are continuing their investigation.
The man who stole the motorcycle is described as white, wearing a red bandanna with white on it, a gray T-shirt and dark shorts. He is about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighs about 240 pounds. The man driving the truck is white, wearing a tan hat and dark shirt and shorts. He is about the same height as the other suspect and weighs 170 to 200 pounds.
