Nicholas Basey

Nicholas Basey, 71, of Bentleyville, died Sunday, August 26, 2018, in Washington Hospital.

He was born January 26, 1947, in Clover Hill, a son of the late Steve and Ann Lipsky Basey.

He was a graduate of California High School.

During the Vietnam War, Mr. Basey served with the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division.

For 18 years, he was a foreman with Vesta and Massey mines. He later worked at and retired from Washington Steel in Washington.

An avid golfer, he golfed at several area and out-of-state courses. He also enjoyed cutting wood with his brother, Lenny.

Mr. Basey was a member of National Rifle Association.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Judith Ann Hrutkay Basey; a daughter, Stefanie King (Matthew) of Washington; brothers Leonard Basey of Daisytown and Timothy Basey (Janet) of Donora; sister Rose Pournaras (Chris) of Canonsburg; several nieces and nephews; a great-niece; and several great-nephews.

He also leaves behind his cat, Ozzy.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 30, with Pastor Paul Peternel officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora, with military rites accorded by American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville.
