Douglas LaVelle Henderson

Douglas LaVelle Henderson, 56, of Washington, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, in his home.
He was born February 13, 1957, in Washington, a son of Chester and Virginia Lovings Johnson.
Mr. Henderson was a graduate of Washington High School, where he played football and was a 1976 WPIAL champion in wrestling. Throughout his life, he remained a follower and supporter of Wash High athletics.
He worked as a box maker for International Paper and enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren.
On March 3, 1984, he married Jane Ayre, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Mathu (Tracy) Thomas of Houston, Doug (Carlie) Henderson of Orlando, Fla., and Chet (Cigi) Henderson of Washington; a daughter, Sarah (Larry) Grandon of Houston; a brother, David Cook; four sisters, Judy Lightfoot, Joyce Stamie, Brenda Vactor and LaRue (Chuck) Davis; six grandchildren, Julius, Keeley, Deja, Porter, Chessa and Camrik; several nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Grace Thomas.
Deceased are a brother, Emmett Henderson, and a sister, Sherry Henderson.
He also leaves behind his faithful followers, his dogs, Coco and Indy.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 30, in John Wesley United Methodist Church, Washington, with the Rev. Harold Knappenberger officiating.
