Raymond B. Smith Sr.

Raymond B. Smith Sr., 88, of McDonald, Cecil Township, died Friday, August 10, 2018, in hospice care in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born November 19, 1929, in Cecil Township, a son of the late Harry M. and Anna (Bruce) Smith.

Mr. Smith graduated from Cecil High School in 1947. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and served stateside.

He was employed by Homestead Industries of Coraopolis for 35 years, retiring in 1990.

On June 30, 1951, he married Evelyn J. Lacotte, who died June 17, 2016, after 65 years of marriage.

Ray, Evelyn and family were active members of Trinity United Presbyterian Church, which later became McDonald Presbyterian Church. He was a member of United Steel Workers of America Local 1351 and served as treasurer, financial secretary and on other committees for 20 years. He was also a member of Imperial Beagle Club for 36 years and was treasurer for 27 years. He was active at both South Fayette and McDonald/Cecil Senior Centers. He loved to hunt, fish, play cards and garden. He spent most of his time with his children and grandchildren, doing outdoor activities.

Surviving are three children, Raymond B. (Debra) Smith of Pleasant Gap, Sharon (Mark) Hall of New Castle and Randy A. (Julie) Smith of Sinking Spring; five grandchildren, Curt and Clay Smith of Pleasant Gap, Kathryn Hall Nash of Fulton, N.Y., Stephanie Smith Yoder and Matthew Smith of Sinking Spring; three great-granddaughters, Ella, Sydney and Lydia Smith, all of Pleasant Gap; and a special friend, Mary Bushmire.

Deceased are four sisters, Alice Linko, Loretta Delpiere, Geraldine Walker and Barbara Miller; four brothers, Kenneth, Robert, Harry M. and James Smith; and an infant grandson, Danton E. Hall.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Nation Funeral Home Inc., 220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 13. Interment will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald. Memorial contributions are suggested to Fort Cherry Ambulance Service, 8200 Noblestown Road, McDonald, PA 15057.
