An unidentified man was injured early Wednesday when he was struck on Route 22/30 in Hanover Township by a vehicle with four occupants that initially stopped but then fled the scene.

State police said the man was hit by a 2011 Subaru Outback. Police said the man was struck either on Route 22/30 or the ramp from Route 18 to Route 22/30.

The four people got out of the vehicle to check on the pedestrian before getting into the vehicle and fleeing the scene. Two people were later identified and taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence. The two unidentified people submitted to chemical testing and were released.

The injured pedestrian was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh in critical condition.

Assisting at the scene were state police accident reconstruction and forensic services units and police from McDonald, Hanover and Smith townships. Police said the investigation is continuing. No charges have been filed.
