Donora woman detained as bank robbery suspect
MONONGAHELA – Police said a Donora woman made the mistake of returning to a Carroll Township intersection where she was suspected of robbing a bank earlier Wednesday.
By then, Carroll Township police Chief Paul Brand said he had gathered from witnesses at the Citizens Bank branch the description of the robber and her car, which he noticed at the intersection of Routes 88 and 837.
He said he attempted to pull over the driver, Angela McKinley, 40, but she sped off at a high speed on Route 88 north.
McKinley made it about two miles to the Monongahela Bridge, where assisting police officers used their cruisers to “block her in,” Brand said.
He said McKinley told him she decided to rob the bank inside Fisher Heights Giant Eagle because she has been unable to support her children.
She’s accused of approaching a bank teller shortly before 1 p.m. and presenting a note demanding money. She claimed to have a firearm, Brand said.
He said a significant amount of money was stolen from the bank branch, and that it was recovered. McKinley’s red Buick was impounded by police.
Brand said officers, including those from Monongahela, did not find a firearm on McKinley.
The FBI was called to the Monongahela police station to assist in the investigation. State charges that include robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and fleeing from police were being prepared Wednesday afternoon against McKinley, Brand said.
He said she would be placed that evening in Washington County Jail, pending an arraignment in the case.
