Gas prices jump in Washington, across region

Gasoline prices rose precipitously in Western Pennsylvania this week. The average price of a gallon of unleaded self-serve is $3.136, up 3.1 cents from last week, according to a report from AAA East Central.

That figure is 35.7 cents higher than it was a year ago, at $2.779.

Washington’s price likewise jumped – by 4 cents from $3.063 to $3.103. The price here this week is still 3.3 cents cheaper then the regional average.

The average price also increased by 3.0 cents in Pennsylvania and across the nation. It is $3.08 in the Keystone State, $2.91 in the U.S. Prices across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region jumped, as well.

For the second week in a row, the region’s gasoline inventories increased by 1.6 million barrels to 69 million, the highest level since June 2017, according to the Energy Information Administration.

Washington’s price is the fifth-lowest average among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA. Uniontown ($3.106) is sixth.

New Castle ($3.029) has the lowest average. Brookville ($3.237) has the highest.
