JoAnn Marshall

JoAnn Marshall, 81, of Washington, died Friday, October 12, 2018, following a lengthy illness.

She was born July 19, 1937, in Roney’s Point, W.Va., a daughter of the late Leonard Duncan and Joanna Grimes.

Mrs. Marshall devoted much of her life to being an advocate for the intellectually disabled, especially those with Down’s syndrome.

She loved taking care of her family and enjoyed gardening.

On December 27, 1972, she married David L. Marshall, who died March 16, 2016.

Surviving are two sons, Ralph (Dana) Sheppard of Bethel Park and Mark (Sharon) Sheppard of White, Ga.; a daughter, Kimberly (Garry) Lightner of Washington; six grandchildren, April (Tim) Serafini, Abbey Sheppard, Moriah Sheppard, Mitchell Sheppard, Matthew Lightner and Wesley Lightner; and a great-grandchild, Gavin Serafini.

Deceased are a daughter, Heather Ann Marshall, two brothers and two sisters.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of service, Tuesday, October 16, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in North Buffalo Cemetery.
