WWII veteran enjoyed hunting, fishing
Denzil Roy Nicholson, 85, of Mt. Morris, died at 9:28 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
He was born Saturday, September 3, 1927, in Morgantown, a son of the late Christopher and Daisy Blosser Nicholson.
Mr. Nicholson was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was considered to be a great muskie fisherman. He loved his garden and had prize-winning watermelons and pumpkins. He loved spending time with his dog, Keeper.
Mr. Nicholson was a self-employed carpenter, retiring in 1991.
He will be sadly missed by his family and his dog.
His wife, Wanda Helmick Nicholson, whom he married June 24, 1949, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Judith Kennedy of Arthurdale, W.Va., and Michele Nicholson of Mt. Morris; five sons, Rick and Larry Nicholson, both of Morgantown, Jeff Nicholson of Westover, W.Va., Bradley Nicholson of Mt. Morris and Greg Nicholson of Star City, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister Eleanor Bailey of Columbus, Ohio; brother Damon Nicholson of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a sister, Elsie Hoffer.
Friends will be received from noon to 3 p.m., the time of service, Wednesday, May 29, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478, Mt. Morris, with the Rev. Ronald Geisler officiating. Burial will be private. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the funeral home to help with costs.
