Virginia McConnell Sikora, 94, of Brownsville, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018, surrounded by her husband and children.

She was born February 21, 1924, in McKeesport, a daughter of Robert O. and Ernestine Beckstead McConnell.

Virginia graduated from McKeesport High School in 1942 and Westminster College in 1947, attended Northwestern University and received a master’s degree from University of Pittsburgh in 1951. She taught English and history at Beaver Falls High School, was a recreation director and was a substitute teacher for 10 years.

She was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother. She loved to read, averaging five books per week. In her retirement years, she taught German class at Center in the Woods for 12 years. She enjoyed playing her accordion and would have her German class perform at various nursing homes several times a year. She also loved to crochet, having made afghans and prayer shawls for numerous people.

Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Edward Sikora Sr.; her daughter, Sandy Logan and husband Tim, daughter Rebekah, son Jason and wife Emily, daughter Norma Conley and husband Jeffrey, son Craig and wife Beth, son Edward Sikora Jr. and wife Karen and his children Amanda, Alexandra, Nicholas and Eric; and great-grandchildren Katelyn, Craig Jeffrey (CJ) and Cara Conley, Owen and Eliana Wood, and Simon Logan.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, November 3, in California United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dawn Hargraves officiating.
