Washington police trying to identify man who died after being struck by vehicle
Washington police are looking for help in identifying a man who died in a Pittsburgh hospital after he was struck by a vehicle Wednesday night while crossing West Chestnut Street near Hayes Avenue.
City police Chief Robert Wilson said the victim was not carrying any identification when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle on West Chestnut about 7:32 p.m.
“We have no idea who he is,” said Wilson, adding that as of Thursday afternoon, police had not received any reports of anyone missing. “He was white and we believe in his 30s.”
Wilson said there was no description of the man’s clothing, other than he wore white tennis shoes and a ball cap. Police are also not sure which way he was crossing the street.
“The driver said he never saw anything,” Wilson said, adding that the driver’s identity would not be immediately released until the victim is identified.
The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police.
The man was taken by ambulance to Washington Hospital before being flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was pronounced dead Thursday morning.
Anyone with information on the victim is asked to call city police at 724-223-4226 or call 911.
