McConnell off to strong start in PIAA golf

YORK – Caroline McConnell of South Fayette shot a 6-over 78 and sits tied for fourth place in the Girls Class AAA PIAA Golf Championship at Heritage Hills Resort Monday.

McConnell shot 1-under 35 on the back nine after shooting a 7-over 43 on the front. McConnell enters the second, and final, round of this event four shots behind leader Caroline Wrigley of North Allegheny.

In girls Class AA, Remmey Lohr of Carmichaels shot a first-round 90 and sits in 12th place, 16 strokes behind Lydia Swan of Northeast, who was at 2-over 74.

Luke Lestini of South Fayette opened with a 7-over 78 and sits tied for 16th place in the Class AAA division. He is five shots behind Palmer Jackson of Franklin Regional, who is 2-over after a 73.

In boys Class AAA, Matt Barrish of Carmichaels was at 5-over 76 and is tied for seventh place. Bentworth’s Luke Dziak shot 9-over 80 and sits at tied for 19th. Jack Hritsko of Chartiers-Houston carded a 92.
