John W. Lindley

On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, John W. Lindley died unexpectedly in his home, while completing yet another “honey-do” list.

He was a son of the late Karen Hays Miller and John W. Lindley.

On September 10, 2018, he retired from the City of Washington Police Department, after 28 years of service. His loved ones called September the “month of John,” as he celebrated with friends and family with lots of laughter and plenty of Miller Lite.

His greatest gifts were his selfless nature and complete willingness to always lend a hand.

John married his wife, Lynne, May 13, 2000. She survives. She will miss his wit, patient temper and 100 percent integrity. Lola, their rescued pup, will also feel his absence.

He is survived by his stepfather, Bernie Miller, brother Gary Lindley and sister Kylee (Brandon) Stevens, all of Washington, and brother Bernie (Gina) Miller of Greene County. John will be missed by his aunts and uncles, Nancy (Ed) Cononge, Jim (the late Bonnie) Lindley and Lois (the late Jack) Greineisen. His cousins, too many to name, will also feel the sting of loss.

John had countless lifelong friends who had become family to him and will miss his “take me as I am” attitude.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is his stepmother, Shy Lindley.

The family invites all to a visitation session from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Christian blessing service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, October 15, in St. Hilary Church, Washington, with Father Michael Peck and Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. The Fraternal Order of Police will hold services at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
