An unnamed individual was taken into custody Friday afternoon after allegedly making a threat against Canon-McMillan School District.

According to a statement released to parents and guardians by the district, officials were informed a parent of a student in the district had threatened to “shoot up the school” in a conversation earlier this week. Police were notified and, after investigating, took the individual into custody. The statement said the person who made the threat does not, in fact, possess any firearms.

“Police and school personnel are confident that there is no threat to the safety of our students, staff or the school community,” the statement said.

In addition, an email message sent Friday to parents and guardians of Canon-McMillan High School students said administrators were aware of “rumors and Facebook posts circulating throughout the community.” It went on to say the high school was never locked down Friday, and there was no evidence of a weapon in the building.
