William H. Miller
William H. Miller, 86, of Houston, died Tuesday, November 6, 2012, in his home.
He was born July 19, 1926, in West Middletown, a son of the late Howard and Grace Martin Miller.
Mr. Miller quit school following the attack on Pearl Harbor to join the U.S. Navy and served during the Pacific island-hopping campaign during World War II.
He had worked for Pennsylvania Transformer, was a former policeman for Chartiers Township and Houston Borough, drove a school bus for Schweinebraten Bus Co. and, for 35 years, served as a Pennsylvania state constable in Chartiers Township, retiring in 2005.
Mr. Miller was a co-founder of Veterans of Foreign Wars 191 Ambulance Service and helped start midget football in Houston. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 in Houston.
He loved life and people, and he will me missed by many.
On May 20, 1950, he married his wife of 62 years, Ada Tinkey, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Frances Huffman (Dave) of Taylorstown, William R. Miller (Denise Felton Miller) of Washington, James H. Miller (the late Louise Smigiel) of Houston and Barbara Durkacs (Dave Smith) of Bridgeville; 12 grandchildren, Leta Dobrzynski Huffman, Lori Catlett, D.J. Huffman, William J., Amber, Bryan, Hayley and Cheyanne Miller, Joseph, Jeremy and Justin Durkacs and Jennifer Durkacs Spadaro; and 19 great-grandchildren, with two on the way.
Deceased is a sister, Betty Jean Miller Bout.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 14342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 9, with the Honorable Jay Weller officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Full military rites will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and American Legion Post 902 combined honor guard.
