Rodney P. “Rod” Babich, 68, of Monongahela, died Sunday, November 18, 2018, in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born March 8, 1950, in New Eagle, a son of the late Michael and Frances McNaughton Babich.
After his graduation in 1968 from Monongahela High School, Rod earned his degree in accounting from Robert Morris University.
For 10 years, he worked at the Volkswagen plant in New Stanton, until its closing in 1988. He then followed his passion and started Rod Babich Home Remolding and Woodworking.
He was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish in Monongahela.
Surviving are his wife, Christine Moskal Babich, whom he married May 5, 1973; a daughter, Joni and husband Jason Vercammen of Williamsburg, Va.; a sister, Patricia and husband Thomas Manko of Monongahela; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Russ and Robin Moskal of New Eagle; mother-in-law Ruth Moskal of New Eagle; and several nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind his faithful beagle, Charlie.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Dennis M. Babich, and a sister, Michele Johnson.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, November 23, in St. Damien of Molokai Parish, Monongahela, with Father William Terza as celebrant. At the family’s request, interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, 724-258-6767.
