David G. Donham

David G. Donham, 96, of Garards Fort, died at 7:12 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in his home.

He was born July 27, 1922, in Monongahela Township, Greene County, a son of the late William E. and Hazel Swart Donham.

Mr. Donham was a 1941 graduate of Mapletown High School. He served with the U.S. Army in the infantry division in Europe and Japan during World War II. After his military service, he worked at Bobtown Mine and then as manager of Mon-View Park in Greensboro. Mr. Donham retired from Duquesne Light Warwick Mine in 1984.

Mr. Donham served his community as a scout leader and with his membership of more than 50 years with Greensboro-Monongahela Township Volunteer Fire Company, of which he was the oldest member. In addition, he was the oldest active member of Mapletown United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent. Mr. Donham served on the board of directors and as president of Monongahela Hill Cemetery Association. He was also a member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400, Veterans of Foreign Wars and United Mine Workers of America, Duquesne Light Local 6310.

Mr. Donham was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pitt fan.

His wife of more than 70 years, June Holdsworth Donham, whom he married August 16, 1948, survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Doreen Sue Donham, at home; two grandchildren, Jordan and Wesley Gnatuk; a son-in-law, Claude E. Straight of Huntington, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a daughter, Marian Louise Donham; two brothers, William Donham and John Donham; and four sisters, Betty Johnson, Marie Constanza, Mary Lou Michaels and Doris Foster.

Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Yoskovich Funeral Home, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels, 724-966-5500, Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 10, with the Rev. H. David McElroy officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Hill Cemetery, with military honors accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and the U.S. Army.
