West Newton Center for Active Adults, 103 E. Main St., will offer a day trip on Nov. 14 and 29. Come to the center for lunch at 11:45 a.m. then head to Filburn Manor for the shuttle that will take you to Lady Luck Casino in Nemacolin. Cost of $10 includes a gift card for $10 that is good for food or the gift shop, plus $15 in free play. Advance registration must be made by Tuesday of the previous week. West Liberty University’s Nutting Gallery will showcase paintings by award-winning artist Thomas Wharton in its latest art exhibition, “Courting Wonder,” on display through Thursday, Nov. 15. The 25 works in this show represent the human form, objects of contemplation, portraits and landscapes.
Operation Troop Appreciation’s 8th Annual Gently Used Costume Jewelry Sale will be held Nov. 9 and 10 at the South Park Community Center, 2675 Brownsville Road. Hours are 1 to 7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The sale will feature more than 35,000 pieces of jewelry, priced $1-$5 per piece, many with price tags still attached. Y108 will broadcast from the event. There will be an “American Auction” with prize baskets. The venue has plenty of free parking and is handicap accessible. A craft and vendor show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in the Pope Benedict Activity Center at St. Benedict the Abbot Church, McMurray. The event will include 30 vendors plus food for purchase including chili, cabbage and noodles, and pierogies. Funds raised will go to Family Promise to help pay for gas for transporting families, and to purchase items for its breakfast food pantry and diapers.
Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church, 45 Church Road, Eighty Four, will hold a pasta and meatball dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. In addition to the main course there will be salad, bread, dessert and drink. Takeout will be available. Cost is a donation of $8 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under. The White Oak American Legion Post No. 701 located at 2813 Capital Street will sponsor oldies dances from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturdays, Nov. 10 and 24, featuring music from the ’50s and early ’60s by Candy and Mike. The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will hold a fall turkey Dinner from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the church located at 61 Walnut Ridge Road. Dinner includes turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing balls, green beans, carrots, cranberry salad and rolls, and either an apple or pumpkin dessert. For those eating in, hot and cold beverages will be available. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children under age 8. Takeout will be available. Heaven Bound Ministries in association with the Emmanuel United Presbyterian Church of Eighty Four will present a 60-minute musical program honoring veterans at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in the sanctuary of Emmanuel U.P. located at 480 Rt. 519. The 30+ member Heaven Bound Ministries vocal group will be joined by the SCI Greene Honor Guard as they present colors. Children, ranging in age from 5 to fifth grade and a bagpiper will also be part of the event. No reservations or tickets are required. St. Francis of Assisi in Finleyville will hold Turkey Bingo at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in Finley Hall. Admission is $5; extra cards will be available. There will be door prizes, raffles and games. Win a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.
