Another gas price decrease pumps up motorists

Motorists in Western Pennsylvania are on a monthlong winning streak.
This is the fifth consecutive week that pump prices have dropped in the region. The average cost of a gallon of unleaded self-serve is $2.943, a 5.2-cent decrease from $2.995, according to a report Monday from AAA East Central.
Gas prices are 19.3 cents per gallon cheaper than five weeks ago. The new average is 8.9 cents above the price of a year ago – $2.854.
Washington’s average slid 3.0 cents this week from $3.010 to $2.980 – 3.7 cents above the regional average.
Pennsylvania’s average plummeted by six cents to $2.88, while the nationwide figure also fell six cents to $2.70. Gas is being sold for $2.50 or less in 41 percent of the nation’s gas stations.
The average in every state in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region is below $3.00. prices continued to decline. Gasoline stocks remain stable at 64 million barrels, 12 million above the level at this time last year.
Washington’s price ranks 17th among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA. Altoona ($2.762) has the lowest average. Brookville ($3.030) has the highest.
