David N. Sweda

David N. Sweda, 62, of Canonsburg, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 17, 2018, in his home.

He was born August 4, 1956, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Basil and Audrey Kirby Sweda.

Mr. Sweda lived his entire life in Canonsburg, where he graduated with Canon-McMillan High School Class of 1974. He was a graduate of Penn Technical Institute in 1976 with an associate’s degree in specialized electronics technology.

David was a hands-on, independent self-learner and was currently employed as a manager at Peak Oil Field Services. He had been employed with Sony as a production engineer, Lowes as a department manager and Amcom as a senior technical representative.

Mr. Sweda was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, serving as an altar boy in his youth and parish council treasurer for the past 28 years.

Tradition and making memories were very important to David. He enjoyed hearing and telling stories of family and friends and loved working with his hands mastering baking, winemaking, gardening and woodworking. May his memory be eternal.

On September 21, 1986, he married his devoted wife, Carol Bernardi, who survives. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his two beloved children, Adam and Elizabeth Sweda of Canonsburg; brother Dennis (Debora) Sweda and niece Tracy Sweda of Canonsburg; nieces Christina (BJ) Reed of South Carolina and Nicole Laudato of Pittsburgh; nephew Dom (Laura) Laudato of Finleyville; brother-in-law Dennis Marton of Bentleyville; nephews John (Debbie) Marton of Washington and Chris (Kathy) Marton of Bentleyville; 12 great-nephews and nieces; uncle Victor Bernardi of Ohio; aunt Gertie Pavlik of Washington; and many cousins.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Richard and Douglas Sweda, and two sisters-in-law, Sandra (McCaffrey) Sweda and Deborah (Bernardi) Marton.

Friends and family are welcome from 3 until 8 p.m. Tuesday in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 610 Boone Avenue, Canonsburg, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, with Archpriest Joseph Oleynik officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Parastas services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the church.
