Glenna Christine Smith
Glenna Christine Smith, 88, of Washington, died Wednesday, November 28, 2018, in Genesis Rehabilitation, Bridgeville.
She was born December 2, 1929, in Finleyville, a daughter of the late A. Wayne and Christina Muir Cole.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Trinity High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she obtained her degree in music education.
She was a music teacher and choir director at Chartiers-Houston Junior/Senior High School for over 30 years. She retired and then taught elementary school music at several Canon-McMillan schools after she found she was restless in retirement.
She volunteered for many decades at Washington Hospital Women’s Auxiliary in the Hospitality Gift Shop, where she was a jewelry buyer, and also volunteered many years at Citizens Library. She was a longtime member of Monday Music Club, Current Events Club and The Rainbow Girls/Eastern Star Association. She faithfully sang in the First Presbyterian Church choir and later Church of the Covenant. She performed as a soloist her entire life to the enjoyment of many.
On June 18, 1955, she married James C. Smith, who died December 14, 2017.
Surviving are a son, Craig D. (Katya) Smith of Lewes, Del.; a daughter, Rebecca C. (Steve) Ressler of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, A. Wayne Cole Jr. of New Wilmington; and two grandchildren, Helen Grace Ressler of Jerusalem, Israel, and Martha Christine Ressler of Nashville. Also surviving are two step-grandchildren, Alex Gorstan and Liza Haar of Baltimore and their sons, Levi and Jacob Gorstan and Brady Haar; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Louise Cole and Viola Jeanne Cole, who died in infancy.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 3. Interment will follow in Mingo Cemetery, Finleyville.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the dementia charity of one’s choice.
