2000 Turkeys campaign continues
With less than two weeks remaining until Thanksgiving, the 2000 Turkeys campaign is in full swing.
Thank you to the Washington County individuals, business and organizations who are pitching in to help raise $100,000 to provide Thanksgiving dinner for their food-insecure neighbors.
In the spirit of the season, Canonsburg Senior Center held a fundraiser and stopped by WJPA Radio Thursday to donate $200 to 2000 Turkeys.
The senior center donates annually, and this year, residents sold feathers for $1 that buyers placed on a drawing of a turkey.
“We sold a lot of feathers. For everyone who came in the center, that was the big thing, looking at our turkey,” said resident Rozella Beegle, 89. “And, of course, they pulled out their wallet.”
Thanks to good neighbors in Washington County, 2000 Turkeys has raised $45,400 for the Greater Washington County Food Bank, which provides families with a holiday meal. About 20 percent of the food bank’s clients are senior citizens.
Also, Range Resources is holding a 2000 Turkeys fundraiser on the streets of downtown Washington from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, and will match donations on that day up to $20,000, so please stop by. The food drive headquarters will be at the Main Street Farmers Market pavilion.
With Thanksgiving around the corner, if you’re thinking about giving, now is the time. A $15 donation provides a Thanksgiving dinner for a family of four.
