WAYNESBURG – A convenience store in Franklin Township was robbed Tuesday night by a man wielding a knife, state police said.

Police said Steven Phillip Bruno entered the 7-Eleven store at 1265 E. High St. near Waynesburg about 8 p.m. wearing a mask and holding a knife.

Bruno demanded money from the clerk and attempted to slash the worker with his knife before leaving with $39 from the register, police said.

Shortly after, Waynesburg police located Bruno, who matched the robber’s description, in the 500 block of East High Street, according to court documents. Investigators said they found Bruno with a “homemade ski mask” and a large bundle of cash. Court documents did not indicate if Bruno had a knife with him when officers took him into custody.

During an interview with state police, Bruno allegedly confessed to the robbery, according to court documents. The worker was not injured in the robbery.

Bruno, 34, of 90 S. Cumberland St., Waynesburg, was arraigned by District Judge David Balint on charges of robbery, theft and simple assault. He is being held at the Greene County jail on $50,000 bond to await his Jan. 3 preliminary hearing before Balint.
