Richard Verner Moore

Richard Verner Moore, 88, of Joffre, passed away Saturday evening, December 29, 2018, in Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center, with his loving wife and son by his side.

He was born September 27, 1930, in Hickory, a son of the late Verner McDonald Moore and Alice Elizabeth Ayers Moore.

A 1949 graduate of Hickory High School, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a corporal and a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with one bronze star, National Service Defense Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Moore retired from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, where he was a road construction carpenter, and was a member of Burgettstown Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Lee Patterson Moore, whom he married June 15, 1957; son Richard V. Moore II of Joffre; grandson Riley Moore of Charleroi; two brothers, Ralph E. Moore of Cherry Valley and James T. Moore of Washington; sisters Norma McKinney of Washington and Nancy Vizyak of Weirton; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his brother, Eugene Moore, and three sisters, Ruth Pakisz, Helen Strike and Irene Carter.

Friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday in Lee and Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, January 3, in the Slovan Mission of Burgettstown Presbyterian Church, Nicholas Street, Slovan, with his pastor, the Rev. Cinda Isler, officiating.

Interment with full military honors accorded by the U.S. Army will follow at 2 p.m. in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorial donations be made to Burgettstown Presbyterian Church, 1325 Main Street, Burgettstown, PA 15021.
