The Washington Symphony Orchestra is once again seeking applicants for its Young Artist Completion.
The Young Artist Competition (YAC) is open to student classical vocalists or instrumentalists who play brass, harp, percussion, piano, strings or woodwinds and are residents of Washington County. Students who audition must be prepared to play/sing one movement of a standard repertoire piece for solo and orchestra. An accompanist is required for the audition.
The winner of the YAC receives a $1,000 prize and will have the opportunity to rehearse for and play with the WSO during its “Back to Broadway” concert May 4.
The deadline for YAC applications is Feb. 13, with auditions held at Trinity High School after that date.
Applications can be found at www.washsym.org, or copies can be requested by calling 724-223-9796 and leaving a message or emailing info@washsym.org.
The WSO offers free admission to students under the age of 18 who participate in musical activities in school (chorus, band, orchestra), or who are attending private musical lessons for voice or instrument. Interested students should ask about the program at the front desk when attending a concert and a volunteer will register them.
