William Marvin Klinzing Jr.

William Marvin Klinzing Jr., 77, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, serviceman and policeman, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018.

He was born March 28, 1941, in Harrisburg, to William and Mona Mahanna Klinzing.

Mr. Klinzing spent his life in service to others. He served his country for seven years in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a captain in Winston-Salem Police Department, protecting and serving his community and city for 30 years. After retirement, he enjoyed his time working at Roger Marion Automotive, helping out wherever he could.

Even as a child he made a difference to those around him, hitting the game winning home run for his team in the 1955 PONY League World Championship.

Mr. Klinzing was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Klinzing, and a sister, Shirley Barlow.

He is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Crews, Elizabeth Shepherd and Katherine Klinzing; five grandchildren, William Singletary, Bradley Crews and wife Tilicia, Allen Shepherd Jr., Hannah Crews and Danyale Moses; a great-granddaughter, Lilah Crews; and a sister, Phyllis Brooks.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, Winston-Salem, N.C. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 5, in Forsyth Park Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, with the Rev. Tom Southard officiating.
