Chartiers-Houston 35, Burgettstown 33: Free throws from Dominique Mortimer and Hannah Siege in the final minutes helped Chartiers-Houston complete a comeback and seal a 35-33 win over Burgettstown in Class 2A Section 3.

The two connected on the game-tying basket before the free throws as the Bucs rallied from the four-point deficit it faced to begin the fourth quarter. Zameriah Edwards scored 13 points to lead Chartiers-Houston (2-3, 4-8), which ended a three-game losing skid. Mortimer finished with 12 points.

Emily Prasko and Celeste DiVecchio each scored eight points for Burgettstown (2-3, 5-7).

Seton La-Salle 50, Washington 46: Carley Allen had another solid performance but Washington couldn’t rebound from a difficult first quarter and fell to Seton La-Salle, 50-46, in a Class 3A Section 2 game.

Allen led the Prexies, who fall to 5-1 in the section and 10-3 overall, with a game-high 26 points.

Seton La-Salle (5-1, 6-6) doubled Washington in the first quarter, 12-6, a lead the Rebels would maintain for most of the game. They held on in the fourth quarter with the scoring of Chloe Lestitian, who finished with 18 points, and 11 points from Vanessa Hudson.

Brownsville 50, Charleroi 22: Alexis Carson scored a game-high 16 points as Brownsville led the entirety to defeat Charleroi, 50-22, in a Class 3A Section 2 game.

Brownsville (2-4, 6-5) led 15-2 after the first quarter and 27-12 at the half. Aniya Tarpley scored 13 points for the Falcons.

Bella Skobel scored 14 of the 22 points for Charleroi (0-6, 3-10).

Monessen 47, Jefferson-Morgan 18: A sluggish start led to a fantastic finish from the floor from Monessen as the Greyhounds dominated the final three quarters to defeat visiting Class A Section 2 foe Jefferson-Morgan, 47-18.

Losing 5-3 after the opening eight minutes, Monessen (2-3, 2-10) outscored the Rockets 13-1 in the second quarter to take the lead. The Greyhounds outscored J-M (1-4, 4-9) in the final three quarters 44-13.

Sydney Caterino scored 10 points to lead Monessen.

Madelyn Reeves led the Rockets with six points.

Southmoreland 45, Belle Vernon 27: Limiting Belle Vernon to seven field goals, Southmoreland’s defense stole the show in a 45-27 victory over the Leopards in a battle of teams atop Class 4A Section 3.

Southmoreland (5-1, 11-2) didn’t allow the Leopards to score more than nine points in any quarter, holding them to five points in the first and fourth quarters.

The Scotties used their balanced offense, which finished with three players in double figures, to pull away. Bailey Kuhns scored 11 points. Sarah Pisula and Maggie Moore each had 10.

Rachel Wobrak led Belle Vernon (4-2, 7-5) with nine points.

West Greene 67, Geibel Catholic 9: Scoring 47 points before halftime, West Greene coasted to a 67-9 victory over Geibel in a Class A Section 2 game.

Kaitlyn Rizor and McKenna Lampe tied with a game-high 15 points for West Greene (5-0, 10-1). Jersey Wise chipped had eight points for the Pioneers, who didn’t press but limited Geibel (0-6, 1-12) to two or less points in three quarters.

Carmichaels 34, Bentworth 24: Gina Ranieri scored nine points as Carmichaels used a big first half to defeat Class 2A Section 3 foe Bentworth, 34-24.

The Mikes, who won their first section victory to improve to 1-4 and 5-9 overall, outscored Bentworth 25-11 in the first half.

Jocelyn Timlin and Caroline Rice tried leading a comeback for Bentworth (0-5, 1-11) by combining to score 20 points. Timlin led all scorers with 11. Rice finished with nine.

South Park 67, Beth-Center 17: Beth-Center struggled to find offense throughout the entirety of a Class 3A Section 2 loss to South Park, 67-17, to have its five-game winning streak come to an abrupt end.

South Park (5-1, 6-6) kept the Bulldogs from reaching double-digits in all four quarters. Cassidy Zanier and Danielle DeProspo led the Eagles with 15 points each.

Elizabeth Trump scored 10 points for Beth-Center (4-2, 8-4), which trailed 32-5 at halftime.

BOYS

Fort Cherry 65, Mapletown 23: Thomas Hamilton made three three-pointers and Maddox Truschel led all scorers with 20 points as Fort Cherry cruised to a 65-23 non-section victory over Mapletown.

The Rangers controlled play from the start, leading 23-4 after the first quarter. Hamilton had 30 points and Zach Vincenti chipped in 10 for Fort Cherry (3-9), which has won three of its last five games.

Ryan Tuttle led Mapletown (0-11) with eight points.

Charleroi 82, Carmichaels 40: Charleroi had three different players finished with at least 20 points as the Cougars defeated Carmichaels in a non-section game, 82-40.

Joe Caruso led the Cougars with 19 points, while teammates Zack Usher and Lee Zanardini joined in on their highest scoring game of the year. Usher had 16 points and Zanardini finished with 15.

It was the third straight win for Charleroi (7-5).

Carmichaels (7-5) was paced by Al Cree’s 16 points.
